I grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka West High School. I played basketball at Trinity University in Texas before returning to KU to finish my education. I started teaching in Shawnee Mission Schools in Kansas City. I moved on to Pembroke Hill School, where I taught and was the Varsity Head Coach for Boys Basketball. We left Kansas City and moved across the country to New Jersey for a year, where I taught and coached. We moved back to the Midwest and landed in Racine, Wisconsin. I taught in Racine for 18 years. Once my children had all graduated high school, we decided to return to Kansas and made Lawrence our home. I taught for 3 years at Washburn Rural Middle School in Topeka. Now, finally, I am teaching where I live.
My wife is a 1st grade teacher at Corpus Christi. We have 4 children, ages 22 to 38. They live in Kansas City and Lawrence, so we get to see them often. We have a little dog named Reggie, and our youngest son has a Pug named Frank (from the movie Men In Black). I am a huge KU fan - Rock Chalk! And, I play as much golf as I can, almost everyday in the summer. I'm excited about West and this year.
