    Lawrence USD 497 encourages parents to discuss family expectations about screen time with their students. Use www.commonsensemedia.org for guidance. You may want to set boundaries for your student with regard to casual screen time, mealtime and bedtime.

    Designate a place to charge the device nightly. Leave the charging cord in that designated area at home. Students should bring the charged device to school daily. Students will use their student email address provided by Lawrence USD 497, such as YourStudentID#@students.usd497.org.

    The district will provide teachers and staff the professional development and support needed to engage students in effective blended learning environments that combine the best of traditional teacher-directed instruction with online and digital learning. Teachers will tailor instruction to individual student strengths, needs, and interests, giving students voice and choice in the path, pace, and place of their learning. Personalized learning empowers students to take ownership of their educational goals.
     
    Tech Tools
    Lawrence USD 497 strives to provide equitable access to the tools necessary to foster essential skills, support creativity, and inspire learning. The district provides iPads and cases to all middle school students, and following a successful high school pilot program and Board approval, high school students will be provided with MacBooks beginning in the 2017-2018 school year.  
     
    Anytime, Anywhere Learning
    Students may take the devices home. No Internet? No problem. Teachers may provide assignments directly on the device. School libraries offer Internet hot spots for checkout. Many community partners offer free Wi-Fi services. Families may wish to explore low-cost Internet services available through www.everyoneon.org. 
     
    A filtering system ensures compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act, blocks inappropriate content, and informs parents of student Internet use. The district's Student Acceptable Use Policy, Responsible Use Guidelines, and digital citizenship curriculum supports safe, responsible use of technology.
