We are proud to announce that to prioritize and enhance focus on teaching and learning, Lawrence Public Schools will implement a Cell Phone-Free Instructional Day beginning January 6, 2025.  Our district is taking clear action on this issue for one reason:  to prioritize the work of the classroom, minimize distractions in the learning environment, and to support our students and teachers in maximizing the learning, creativity and growth of our students.

You might be interested in the Away for the Day website.  It contains research, news and testimonials about improved academic focus, social emotional learning, mental health considerations and minimizing disruptions in cell phone free classrooms.

At the high school level, phones are to be turned off and stored out of sight from the time the bell rings to begin a class period to the time the bell rings to end a class period.  Cell phones may be used before and after school, during passing periods and during lunch.  The hope is that consistent practice of this policy will help maintain a respectful and focused school community.

    ATTENDANCE

Parents/guardians should call 785-330-2503 or email fssattendance@usd497.org to let us know when your student is late or absent. If you need your student out for an appointment, please let us know 2 hours in advance.

Visitors who need access to the building beyond the front office during the school day will need to have their driver's license or state ID scanned for admittance beyond the front office.  This will increase school security measures at the point of entry, safeguarding students and staff from potential harm.
